§01What IAHSS is.
The International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety credentials healthcare security officers at Basic (BSO), Advanced (ASO), and Supervisor (SSSO) tiers. It is the North American de-facto standard for hospital and long-term-care security.
§02Why it matters.
Healthcare environments require a different skill mix: NVCI-trained de-escalation, patient-in-crisis vocabulary, medication-room protocols, code-response coordination (White, Silver, Yellow). Generic guards trained for retail or construction cannot deliver this.
§03Code response training.
Code White (violent person), Code Silver (weapon), Code Yellow (missing patient) — every officer must know their role, their equipment, and the escalation ladder before the first shift.
§04Mental Health First Aid.
MHFA (Canada) certification pairs well with IAHSS. Officers who understand the phenomenology of psychiatric crisis intervene more safely and de-escalate more consistently.
§05What Guardian Shield staffs.
Our healthcare deployments require IAHSS-BSO minimum on hire, NVCI within 90 days, and MHFA within 12 months. Supervisors hold IAHSS-SSSO.
